On the afternoon of June 5th, Prof Brijes Mishra from the Mining Department of West Virginia University visited the School of Civil Engineering and gave an academic report entitled “Experimental and numerical rock mechanics to improve mine safety” in the reporting room of the second floor. Teachers and students of our school listened to the report.
Brijes Mishra is the president of the 36th and 37th International Strata Control Conference (USA), and was awarded the honorary title of “Future Young Leader” by the American Rock Mechanics Association. In 2015, she was promoted to associate professor (tenure position). In 2018 he was promoted to honorary professor of “Syd and Felicia Peng”.
At the report, Prof. Brijes Mishra used several research methods, such as laboratory tests and numerical calculations to solve a number of rock mechanics problems that need to be solved in coal mine. The coal pillar stability analysis in deep mine, the latest research results on the triaxial experimental mechanical behavior of rocks under high temperature and high pressure and the triaxial creep properties of rocks. During the discussion, he had an in-depth interaction with the teachers and students, and patiently answered the questions raised by the teachers and students. Finally, Prof Shuren Wang, Director of the International Joint Laboratory of Henan Province for the Underground Engineering Development and Disasters Prevention, gave the certificate of a Guest professor to Dr Brijes Mishra. The report was closed in the warm applause of teachers and students.
After the meeting, everyone agreed that the report will help broaden the academic horizon and have a deeper understanding of the frontier development of the rock mechanics direction. This report provided a good communication platform for improving the level of disciplines and increasing the visibility of the disciplines.
